In collaboration with a colleague, I have developed a model for offering reflective practice sessions to school staff and others in helping professions. Working in a helping role makes great demands on the whole person. The experience of feeling heard, accepted and valued can increase the capacity of staff to meet the emotional needs of those they are helping.
The aim of these sessions is to provide staff with an uninterrupted space to unload, explore concerns, challenges, and sources of stress and to reflect with colleagues on their practice.
Interested staff members meet monthly in small groups or individually with an experienced independent facilitator. This provides a confidential space for staff to be supported in their development.
Reflective Practice Sessions help participants to:
- Maintain motivation and resilience in the face of challenges
- Develop and maintain a clearer sense of purpose
- Increase resourcefulness and confidence
- Manage the stresses of balancing a professional and personal life
